Marching Band

Marching band is one of the most exciting and meaningful opportunities Charlottesville High School has to offer – a program built on excellence, pride, teamwork, and community. Our students develop musical skills, leadership, confidence, and lifelong friendships while representing Charlottesville High School with spirit and distinction across Virginia and beyond,

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the top performing organization of band literature at CHS. This ensemble focuses on expanding and refining performance fundamentals. The Wind Ensemble consists of students with the ability to perform grade VI literature. The
students in the Wind Ensemble are a select group of musicians, and are expected to practice, rehearse, and perform at a high level

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is the larger of the two band performing ensembles. The ensemble focuses on establishing and reinforcing performance fundamentals. The Symphonic Band will consists of students with the ability to perform grade IV literature.

Jazz Band

Jazz band is open to any student who plays saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass or drum set. These musicans meet before school and focus on developing a mature jazz sound in different styles and learning how to improvise.  

 

Winter Guard​​​

Winter guard is an indoor color guard sport and performance art where performers spin flags, mock rifles, and sabers and dance to recorded music. It is separate from the traditional fall marching band, taking place indoors from roughly December through March.
